Philosophy & Goals:

The Cumberland House Cree Nation and the Chief and Council believe that First Nations Children are sacred.

At the Cumberland House Cree Nation we place a priority on making everyone – parents, children, and other agencies – feel welcome and comfortable.

Our goal is to provide a healthy and safe environment where children can grow socially, emotionally, physically, intellectually, culturally, and spiritually.

We strive to create a balance between developing children’s positive self-concept and a respect for each other.

Our program is child centered and includes activities designed to meet group and individual needs as well as the changing requirements of the developing child.

We believe that children must be cared for in a healthy, safe manner by caring and trained staff.

We believe that all children, regardless of their physical, emotional, mental or social abilities, have the right and should be offered the opportunity to take part in our program.

Statement of Beliefs and Values about children

We believe that….

Children are a gift from the Creator.

Children have a right to live proudly as First Nations people in the land of their ancestors.

Children have a right to learn their First Nations Culture and Language.

Children are part of what makes a community whole.

Children need positive role models, to gain knowledge and experience on how to live a healthy lifestyle.

Children learn by watching, listening and doing.

Children, through being loved, valued and encouraged, will gain the courage, the strength and the wisdom to use the power of a good mind and spirit in all that they do.

Children have a right to live in a healthy, safe and self-determining Community.
